Synaxis Baltica

Synaxis Baltica is a network for students in the field of arts and arts management. The network consists currently of nine universities and partner institutions. They all are located in countries surrounding the Baltic Sea. Thus, questions of the European culture management focus on a regional aspect.

Each year one of the member institutions arranges a summer academy. There the participating students of the network meet and work on particular issues of cultural management and cultural policy.

The summer academy 2006 was arranged in Görlitz-Zgorzelec from 9th to 24th of September. The theme of that year's academy was "Art, Nature, Responsibility".

The summer academy 2007  took place in Tallinn from 1st to 14th of August 2007. The topic was "Creative Clusters -- Future Model for the Cultural Field?"

The summer academy 2008 took place in St. Petersburg -- Tikhvin from 1st to 14th of August 2008. The topic was "Discovering new cultural-historical attractions".

The summer academy 2009 was conducted in Potsdam/Berlin, Germany, from 24th July to 7th of August with the wonderful topic of "Community gardens/Guerilla gardening".

In the summer of 2010, Klaipėda Cultural Communication Centre and Vilnius Academy of Arts, Lithuania, namely the UNESCO Chair for Cultural Management and Cultural Policy, are organizing a consecutive event under the umbrella of the alliance.

In the year 2010, earmarked by the global financial crisis, Klaipėda takes all the courage and mobilizes all its enthusiasm to let the project continue.

This year’s topic is “Artistic gentrification of the old town”, and the dates for the project are: August 2-15.

In the light of the rising initiatives in the cultural industries and the ideas of the Lisbon strategy, we believe that the project will benefit the participants and, especially, the town of Klaipėda, as a specific intercultural site in the Baltic region.
